Hosting
The department offers a simple website hosting service under www.stat.cmu.edu. To activate it, email remarks@stat.cmu.edu asking for this. A directory will be created with your Stat ID under stat.cmu.edu to which you can ssh/sftp via
ssh statID@www.stat.cmu.edu
You will land at stat.cmu.edu/~statID/, where you'll find a directory called public_html. Put the website content there and the website will be available immediately. Default files are usually called index.html or index.php.
Tools to build your personal website
- Google Sites: good solution if you don’t care about personalization or if you have very little time to spend on building a website. It's probably the fastest and easiest way to build an academic website without writing code.
- Hugo: fast and flexible open-source static site generator designed for developers to build and customize websites efficiently. Check the dedicated Wiki page.
