    2. For Brother printers, search for your model here https://support.brother.com/g/b/productsearch.aspx?c=us&lang=en
  2. Open the Control Panel. (Click here to see how to open the Control Panel.)
  3. Click Hardware and Sound => Devices and Printers => Add a printer.
  4. Click The printer that I want isn't listed.
  5. Select Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname and click Next.
  6. Enter the hostname of the printer into the "Address" box (i.e. “carina.stat.cmu.edu”)
  7. Click Next.

Mac OS

  1. Ensure that you are connected to the “CMU-SECURE” wireless network OR the wired ethernet network on campus
  2. Select "System Preferences" from the Apple Menu.
  3. Click the "Printers & Scanners (Print & Scan)" icon.
  4. Click the "+" button which is located below the "Printers" section.
  5. Click the "IP" icon which is located at the top of the dialog box.
  6. Select "HP JetDirect - Socket" from the "Protocol" list for HP/Ricoh printers, or "Internet Printing Protocol - IPP" for others
  7. Enter the hostname of the printer into the "Address" box (i.e. “carina.stat.cmu.edu”)
  8. Select "Select Software" from the "Use (Print Using)" list and choose the option corresponding to the printer’s model from the list.
    • If the printer’s model is unavailable, cancel the “Printer Software” window and instead select “Generic PostScript Printer” for “Use:”
    • Optionally rename the “Name:” and “Location:” fields to whatever you find helpful.
  1. Click "Add". The printer is now available in the "Printers & Scanners (Print & Scan)" list.
  2. Select "Quit System Preferences" from the Apple Menu. The setup is now complete.
  3. To check if the printer connection is valid, you can go to the “Printers & Scanners” page in system preferences, choose the printer you want to check, click on “Open Print Queue”, then choose “Printer” -> “Print Test Page” from the Menu Bar (the one at the top of the screen)
